Iconography; the pictorial material relating to or illustrating a subject

The Cane Corso has a rich and varied iconography. The following pictures illustrate this type of dog down through history. It's fanciers immortalized it's many virtues in paint, terra cotta, bas-relief's, sculptures and mosaics. Much of what we know of the morph-functional characteristics of the breed we learned from it's iconography. We know that this type of dog existed for millennia because we can see him by looking back through this window in history.
