Recent History

In 1995 Renzo Carosio is appointed standing auditor for the SACC. Mr Carosio taking this responsibility with great commitment, reports his findings of irregularities and violations of the rules statute committed by the SACC to the ENCI and to the court. Additionally various complaints have been made to ENCI and the ministry of Agriculture regarding the running of the SACC.

The Association of Italian Cane Corso or AICC is formed on January 10th 1998. The AICC holds it’s first show in June of 1998 and 103 Cane Corso’s compete, a record number to date. August of 98’ the AICC believing it has all the criteria met aply's to ENCI for recognition as the official breed club of the Cane Corso. ENCI cash’s the AICC’S application check, but is told that they must wait until the SACC situation is resolved. The AICC sets it’s sites on reaching out to the Cane Corso community abroad and recognizes the Cane Corso Club of the Netherlands, chaired by MR Eric De Vries. Then Vice President Carosio is invited to judge the CCCN National show. On February 4th 1999 during Minister’s question time, the Vice President of the Italian Senate, Carlo Rognoni, asked the ENCI to intervene to absolve the SACC of all rights to represent the Cane Corso. March of 1999 the dissolution of the corporate bodies took place and an extraordinary commissioner was appointed to oversee the SACC.

July of the same year the SACC is removed from acknowledgement by ENCI as the guardian of the Cane Corso breed. April of 1999 the AICC reach’s out the to the International Cane Corso Federation in an effort to open a dialogue for the future of the breed. This overtures is met with great enthusiasm by the Americans and over time a bond between the organizations was formed. This event marks the first time the ICCF has had positive relations with an Italian club since 1996 when formal relations with SACC where broken off. Many obstacles where still in the way but the foundation for a strong future collaboration was laid. June 1999 organizes a round table discussion on Hip Dysplasia in conjunction with their second annual show, 76 dogs participate. August 1999 the ICCF assembles a committee to explore to possibility of or the necessity of making revisions to the ICCF standard, the committee consists of ICCF President Michael Ertaskiran, Vice-President Derek Matson, Secretary Melissa Harvey, Registrar Ed Hodas, and Public Relations Officer Steve Nash. In March of 2000 the revisions to the ICCF Standard are complete and distributed to it’s membership via the ICCF Quarterly newsletter and the clubs website www.canecorso.org. The revisions bring the American version more in line with the International standard. Now AICC President Renzo Carosio accompanied by AICC Vice President Gian Carlo Ruggieri come to America to observe the ICCF National show in Washington DC. An ICCF Delegation consisting of ICCF President Michael Ertaskiran, Liz Ertaskiran and Shauna Shiftlet visit Italy on the invitation of Mr Carosio. The significance of this visit is obvious for a number of reasons, AICC arranges a meeting between the ICCF delegation and ENCI Director Giani to discuss the state of the Cane Corso breed in the United States and it’s possible future in the International community. It marks the first time that the Presidents of the three major Cane Corso clubs (AICC, ICCF,CCCN) are gathered together. The first ever T.A.N. test are administered to Cane Corso’s in order to gauge their herding instincts. In October the ICCF returns the favor and brings Mr Carosio to America to judges a Regional Specialty in New Jersey, conduct judges and breeders seminars and give out written critiques. December of 2000 ENCI decides that the Cane Corso breed will be overseen by a commission consisting of: Judges committee Prof. Raffaello Mariotti, Mr. Bruno Piccinelli, Breed commission Dr. Giancarlo Bosio, Prof. Luigi Guidobono Cavalchini, Dr. Guido Vandoni Technical commission Mr. Paolo Bastianini, Mr. Renzo Carosio Dr. Giulio Mazzilli. This commission will oversee the breed for 6 months at which time ENCI will appoint an Official representative breed club. November, the AICC announces the completion of the study on the breed containing proposals for review of the standard and a zootechnic program of selection. December the ICCF introduces its breed wide health survey program to determine the general health of the breed, and what genetic problems may exist.
